Biden Signs 'Pro-Union Labor Standards Executive Order'... Harris Provides Support
U.S. President Joe Biden signed an executive order on the 6th (local time) immediately after delivering a speech at a union training center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, prioritizing federal grants for labor-related projects such as labor agreements, wage standards, and childcare and training programs.
In his speech, President Biden said this executive order would "ensure federal agencies protect workers' power and promote free and fair union membership choices."
Last September, President Biden emphasized his stance as a 'pro-union' president by visiting the United Auto Workers strike site in Michigan and joining the ranks encouraging union strike participation.
He also stated, "The middle class built America, and you built the middle class. Unions built the middle class."
President Biden's signing of the executive order and his speech are interpreted as a side support for Vice President Kamala Harris, who became the Democratic presidential candidate after other candidates withdrew.
Michigan is one of the Rust Belt battleground states, and Harris's presidential campaign views winning the Rust Belt workers' votes as the key to winning the election.
