The September 2023 China Business Agreement Leads to New Product Development

Scheduled for Release in March 2025

Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Yeong-min) visited Qingdao, Shandong Province, China on the 19th to meet with Chairman Kang Bin of Shandong Bulgon Group for the development and export of a Korea-China joint beverage using Gohung Yuja.

According to Gohung-gun, this new product is being developed based on the business agreement signed in September last year, using sea cucumber extract researched by the top artisan in the technology field in China at the Marine Food Nutrition Innovation Institute and premium Gohung Yuja as raw materials.

The beverage recipe was finalized in June this year, and the formal customs clearance of Chinese raw materials such as sea cucumber extract in Korea is underway.

The background of the beverage development started from an idea proposed by Governor Gong Yeong-min during the Gohung agricultural and marine products export pioneering group activities in September last year, suggesting the development of a new flavored beverage through a joint venture with a new Chinese product using Gohung Yuja.

Based on this idea, a partnership agreement was signed with Jeonnam Agricultural Research & Extension Services in April, successfully developing a beverage recipe using Gohung Yuja and sea cucumber as raw materials.

Governor Gong Yeong-min of Gohung said, "The combination of Yuja, rich in vitamin C, and sea cucumber, called the ginseng of the sea, was something no one could have imagined," adding, "For Gohung Yuja to be competitive globally, it must maintain excellent quality befitting a premium Yuja and be developed into various new products beyond Yuja tea to enter the global market."

Going forward, the beverage using Gohung Yuja is scheduled for full-scale launch in March 2025 after the administrative procedures for the sea cucumber extract, which is being imported into Korea for the first time, are completed, followed by inspection of the production process for consumables such as packaging and containers.
