Swallowing Stones and Snout Adhesion... Bizarre Accidents
Nationwide, a pet insurance company in the United States, is set to hold the "Hambone Awards," a ceremony recognizing pets that have experienced the most absurd accidents.
The Hambone Awards is an annual event that selects the most ridiculous pet accidents from around the world. Candidates are chosen from the most absurd pet insurance claims submitted to Nationwide, and a final vote determines the winner. The Hambone Awards were created to honor a dog that was trapped in a refrigerator and survived by eating all the ham inside.

View original imageAs of the 27th (Korean time), Nationwide has already created the official 2024 Hambone Awards final page on its website. There are a total of eight finalist pets: seven dogs and one pet parrot.
“Arch,” who lives in New York State, injured his paw by breaking a glass door while trying to alert his family of the arrival of a mail carrier. After the accident, the family immediately took Arch to a veterinarian for treatment, and the glass door was replaced with another door that posed no risk of breaking. Meanwhile, “Bear,” a Welsh Corgi living in Pennsylvania, played with a glue bottle and ended up with his snout sealed shut.
The only bird among this year’s finalists, a parrot named “Clover,” suddenly experienced rapid body growth, causing her claws to lengthen. The overgrown claws became entangled, causing both feet to stick together, leaving Clover unable to stand properly. Meanwhile, “Kodiak” swallowed four neatly cut stones while running around the garden outside the house, resulting in an upset stomach.
Fortunately, all the pets involved in these accidents were taken to veterinarians in time and have since recovered their health. However, their owners realized the importance of pet insurance because of these incidents. The final results will be announced on the 27th, U.S. time.
