Hwang Hyun-sik, President of LG Uplus, recently said this when meeting employees who successfully completed the broadcasting relay of the Paris Olympics. LG Uplus exclusively provided the broadcasting relay lines for the recently concluded Paris Olympics to the three major domestic terrestrial broadcasters. During the transmission of the local event coverage to Korea, sudden incidents such as international submarine cable failures and power outages occurred, but these crises were overcome through thorough preparation and technological expertise. President Hwang stated, "Thanks to LG Uplus's differentiated wired network technology, uninterrupted broadcasting transmission was possible even in crisis situations."
Lee Dong-il, head of the broadcasting relay team who was responsible for managing the network in Paris, explained, "Among the four submarine cable lines prepared for the broadcast relay, failures occurred in two lines, but by utilizing the 'Hitless' technology that allows transmission to be maintained by rerouting to backup lines even if the main network line is cut off, we were able to broadcast smoothly." He added, "During the power outage at the Paris International Broadcasting Center, we were able to overcome the crisis that could have temporarily interrupted the broadcast by using UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)."
When President Hwang asked about the background behind the stable broadcast relay, the employees unanimously answered 'experience' and 'preparation.' They explained that the experience of handling relays at major international sports events such as London 2012, Sochi, Russia, Tokyo, and Hangzhou led up to Paris. The team leader said, "Understanding the operational procedures for each equipment and service in advance and conducting simulation training with the responsible personnel for potential crisis situations beforehand also helped us smoothly overcome the crisis."
President Hwang expressed his gratitude to the employees who flawlessly completed the international event and emphasized that it is time to launch differentiated services and products that customers can feel based on wired technology. Previously, LG Uplus has been focusing on strengthening the competitiveness of wired products by applying AI to its IPTV service U+tv to improve customer convenience and utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the quality of ultra-high-speed internet networks.
