It is hosted by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), a research agency under the U.S. Department of Defense, and has been held over two years.
'Team Atlanta,' a coalition of researchers from Samsung Research, Samsung Electronics' advanced R&D organization, Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), New York University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), made it into the seven teams advancing to the final round.
In the semifinals, the coalition team demonstrated their technology by automatically detecting security vulnerabilities in large-scale software and applying security patches through their self-developed AI security system. Notably, among 39 participating teams, they were the only team to identify real software vulnerabilities beyond those set by the organizers, earning high scores.
By advancing to the finals, the coalition team secured research funding of $2 million (approximately 2.6554 billion KRW). They are also scheduled to participate in the final round at the cybersecurity conference DEF CON 2025, held in August next year. The total prize money is $20 million (approximately 26.552 billion KRW).
