Lotte Mart Broadcasts AI-Generated Music in Stores... Expanding 'Retail Integration'
'Lotte Mart, Enjoyable Time' and More Released
First Case of AI Utilization in Marketing Field
Meets Chairman Shin Dong-bin's Order to Emphasize AI
Lotte Mart has started playing music created using a generative artificial intelligence (AI) music production platform as in-store background music (BGM). This is the first case of utilizing AI in the marketing field. This move also aligns with the directive of Shin Dong-bin, Chairman of Lotte Group, who emphasized strengthening competitiveness through AI adoption.
Lotte Mart announced on the 20th that it has been broadcasting BGM created using generative AI in stores since the 8th. The tracks played by Lotte Mart are three songs titled "Lotte Mart, Enjoyable Time," "Cooking, For You Who Are Tired," and "Marble Nine, Party Tonight," all of which were produced using generative AI in every aspect including composition, lyrics, and vocals. All are upbeat K-pop dance songs, with lyrics themed around Lotte Mart’s representative private brand (PB).

This music production marks Lotte Mart’s first use of AI in marketing. Until now, Lotte Mart had limited AI use to fresh food quality control and work search functions. However, the company explained that it incorporated AI into marketing to keep pace with rapidly changing retail trends and to provide customers with a fresh shopping experience. Lotte Mart stated, "The AI music production took only two days from planning to completion," adding, "It saved about 90% of the cost and time compared to the traditional method of hiring composers and singers."
On the 15th, Lotte Mart also released a new brand song titled "Daily Very Delicious" on YouTube and other social media platforms, using images created by generative AI for the album cover and music video. Going forward, AI background music themed around major seasons such as Chuseok, Lunar New Year, Christmas, and monthly representative fruits will be broadcast. The Chuseok gift set catalog will also be presented as video content created using generative AI.
Lotte Mart’s expansion of AI use follows Chairman Shin Dong-bin’s directive to "increase AI acceptance across all operations." Chairman Shin has emphasized AI utilization since the beginning of this year. Following his mention of AI in the January New Year’s address, he stressed at the first half-year executive meeting (VCM) held the same month that "AI should be regarded as a fundamental competitiveness enhancement measure." At the second half VCM, he again emphasized innovation and identified AI as the tool to execute it.
