Choosing China as the First Destination After Inauguration
Chinese President Xi Jinping told newly appointed Communist Party Secretary Let Lwm, who is on a state visit to China, that he hopes to "build a good working relationship and personal friendship."
On the 19th, China Central Television (CCTV) reported that during a meeting with Secretary Let Lwm held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, President Xi said, "I want to jointly lead the deeper and more concrete promotion of the China-Vietnam community of shared destiny." Let Lwm, who was elected on the 3rd as the successor to the late Secretary Zhong last month, chose China as his first destination after taking office. He arrived at Guangzhou Airport in Guangdong Province on the 18th via a special flight, beginning a three-day state visit.
President Xi explained, "Secretary Let Lwm choosing China as his first visit after taking office fully demonstrates the high regard both parties and countries have for their relationship, as well as the high level and strategic nature of China-Vietnam relations," adding, "China has always prioritized Vietnam in its diplomacy with neighboring countries."
Secretary Let Lwm praised President Xi for leading China to become a strong and prosperous nation and lauded China's growing role in peace, cooperation, and regional and global development, CCTV reported.

Major foreign media outlets predict that before returning home on the 20th, Secretary Let Lwm will meet with high-ranking Chinese officials, including Premier Li Chang. Next month, Let Lwm is scheduled to visit the United States as a head of state to attend the UN General Assembly and is expected to meet with U.S. President Joe Biden.
