On the 14th, HUFS met with Miriam Nicado Garcia, President of the University of Havana, and signed an exchange agreement, agreeing to proceed with academic and student exchanges.
The signing ceremony was attended by Cuban officials including the Charg? d'Affaires of the Cuban Embassy in Korea, the Director of the Asia-Pacific Department of the Cuban International Association of Friendship among Peoples, and a professor from the Cuban Institute of International Policy, as well as HUFS officials such as Kim Min-jung, Vice President for Finance and External Affairs, Yang Jae-wan, Director of International Exchange, and Shin Jeong-hwan, Director of the HUFS Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute.
The visit of the University of Havana was made to attend the Korea-Cuba diplomatic relations commemorative academic conference hosted by the HUFS Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute. After the signing ceremony, a conference on sustainable development plans between Korea and Cuba was also held.
On that day, President Garcia stated, "The agreement will be an important opportunity to open up various exchange possibilities not only between the two universities but also between the two countries," adding, "I hope for continuous interest and cooperation so that various programs can be firmly established in the future."
HUFS regards this as the first agreement between universities following the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and Cuba in February and expects it to be a starting point for future exchange cooperation.
