Gangnam-gu Hosts 'Meeting Independence Activists Through Toys Exhibition' at Dosan Park
Exhibition of Brick Artworks Depicting Key Scenes from the Independence Movement History from the 13th to 31st of This Month
Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will hold a special exhibition at Dosan Park titled "Meeting Independence Activists through Toys" from the 13th to the 31st of this month.
In 2022, the Seoul Education Museum at Jeongdok Library, Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, held an exhibition called "Heroes Who Protected the Nation through Toys," which received great acclaim from visitors and continuous demands for reopening. To commemorate the 79th anniversary of Liberation Day this month, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education is hosting this special exhibition with support from the Dosan Ahn Chang-ho Memorial Association and Gangnam-gu. In line with the exhibition, the district will hold a Happiness Concert every day at noon in Dosan Park.
The special exhibition held in the exhibition container within Dosan Park is open free of charge from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and weekends. It consists of toy artwork displays, photo exhibitions, and a brick experience zone.
The exhibition features 14 works by brick art artist Lee Je-hyung. It showcases key figures in Korea’s independence movement, including Min Yeong-hwan who opposed the Eulsa Treaty and committed suicide, Ahn Jung-geun who assassinated Ito Hirobumi, Ahn Chang-ho who worked for educational reform, Yu Gwan-sun of the March 1st Movement, and Kwon Ki-ok, Korea’s first female pilot who served in the Air Force. The toy artworks are expected to provide children with an enjoyable opportunity to learn history.
To appreciate the details of the brick art, enlarged photos of the actual works are also exhibited. After the exhibition at Dosan Park ends, the special exhibition will continue at the Seoul Education Museum from the 11th of next month until July 31 of the following year.
On the opening day, the 13th, an opening ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. The Gangnam Choir’s male sextet will sing the national anthem written by Dosan Ahn Chang-ho and the Korean Peninsula song to commemorate the significance of Liberation Day. Additionally, there will be an unveiling ceremony of a large-scale model of Dosan and a Taegukgi (Korean flag) completion performance. A 1.8-meter tall large model depicting Ahn Chang-ho harvesting oranges at an orange farm in the United States in 1912 was created.
The district will hold Happiness Concerts from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily from the 13th to the 31st. Nineteen teams will perform various genres including classical, gugak (traditional Korean music), jazz, dance, and vocal bands, bringing daily vitality to Dosan Park.
Meanwhile, on the 14th at 6 p.m., a concert by the Dosan Wind Orchestra, organized by the Dosan Ahn Chang-ho Memorial Association, will take place.
