Enhancing Safety Awareness of Delivery Workers Exposed to Road Hazards, Expecting Traffic Accident Prevention
Various Events Prepared Including Coffee Truck, Delivery Box Disinfection, and Heatstroke Prevention Kit Distribution
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced on the 2nd that it will conduct the ‘Delivery Safety 365’ campaign at Times Square Plaza to prevent traffic accidents and raise safety awareness among delivery workers.
The district has partnered with the Ministry of Employment and Labor and Woowa Brothers Corp. to enhance safety awareness among delivery and courier workers and reduce traffic and other safety accidents. Since delivery workers must operate on slippery roads even during heavy rain and typhoons, safe driving is of utmost importance.
As delivery services have become widespread, accidents involving delivery workers have also frequently occurred. According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the number of delivery workers increased from 119,626 in 2019 to 237,188 in 2022, nearly doubling, and among them, 43% responded that they had experienced an average of two traffic accidents within the past six months.
The campaign will take place at Yeongdeungpo Times Square Plaza at 2 p.m. on the 2nd, featuring various events and giveaways in which delivery workers can directly participate.
First, to provide a brief respite from the heatwave, a beverage giveaway event called the ‘Coffee Truck’ will be operated. Additionally, to ensure the safety and hygiene of summer delivery food, disinfection services for delivery boxes and delivery bags will be provided.
There will also be a roulette event where participants can receive essential summer safety items such as cooling sleeves, towels, and safety stickers.
On the day of the event, the Yeongdeungpo-gu Workers’ Comprehensive Support Center will also hold a cool water and ice giveaway to prevent heat-related illnesses.
