Alibaba Cloud Launches AI-Based OBS Cloud 3.0 for Paris Olympics
Alibaba Cloud announced on the 30th the launch of the Olympic Broadcasting Service (OBS) Cloud 3.0 in celebration of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
OBS Cloud 3.0, which combines artificial intelligence (AI)-based cloud technology, supports rights holders to perform their tasks easily and efficiently. It also helps maximize the benefits of cloud technology such as enhanced remote work capabilities, effective real-time workflow collaboration, as well as improvements in operational scalability, efficiency, and sustainability.
As part of OBS Cloud 3.0, OBS Live Cloud becomes the primary means of remotely transmitting live broadcast signals to rights holders for the first time, replacing satellites. Currently, 54 broadcasters are using OBS Live Cloud for the Paris Olympics, with 379 video and 100 audio feeds scheduled to be transmitted through the live cloud. The content transmission technology via the cloud offers low latency and high resilience, delivering superior performance compared to other content distribution technologies in terms of scalability, flexibility, and cost efficiency.
OBS’s content delivery platform, ContentPlus, hosted on Alibaba Cloud, will simplify the remote production process and provide seamless delivery of live sessions, athlete interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and social media (SNS) content.
OBS plans to produce over 11,000 hours of content, and the efficient access method of the cloud-based portal streamlines remote production and ensures uninterrupted smooth content delivery.
Through ContentPlus’s features, rights holders can create their own broadcast highlights from anywhere in a short time. The produced content can be downloaded in three different resolutions, making it easy to use for various purposes.
Additionally, Alibaba Cloud will provide detailed information to enable in-depth analysis of game scenes through the OBS multi-camera replay system during the Paris Olympics. This will be applied to 21 sports and 14 venues, including rugby, badminton, athletics, and basketball.
