Discovering Socially Isolated Households and Preventing Solitary Deaths
Gijang County in Busan (County Governor: Jung Jongbok) recently conducted an educational session at the Chasung Art Hall in Gijang County Office to promote social awareness of single-person households. The event was attended by over 100 participants, including members of the Community Social Security Council, public officials, and staff from related organizations.
The training, held on the 26th, was organized to prevent solitary deaths, which have emerged as a social issue due to the increasing proportion of single-person households. The goal was to strengthen the capacity of the public-private welfare community and to establish a local protection system.
The instructor for the day was Kim Seokjung, CEO of Keepers Korea, who is recognized as Korea's first bereavement organizer and an expert in solitary death prevention education.
Kim Seokjung delivered a lecture on "Identifying Socially Isolated Households in the Welfare Blind Spot and Preventing Solitary Deaths," explaining the causes and characteristics of solitary deaths, approaches to prevention by type, and case studies from other regions. He emphasized the importance of community interest and the human safety net.
