Handonghun Meets Speaker Woo, Says "We Must Uphold the Spirit of Agreement for Cooperative Governance"
Handonghun, Connection from Cabinet Member Days "Deep Impression"
Speaker Woo "Agrees That Public Opinion Always Prevails"
Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, visited Speaker Woo Won-shik of the National Assembly on the 25th and said, "We shared the view that we must uphold the spirit of consensus and practice cooperative governance, and Speaker Woo agreed with that intention."
On the same day, Han met Speaker Woo at the National Assembly and said, "Although I spent a long time with Speaker Woo as a cabinet member and had many conversations, I was deeply impressed by the rational and fair proceedings he demonstrated at that time."
Han said, "The reasons the people chose me are, first, to respond more to public sentiment and the people's expectations; second, to pursue more competent politics for the future; and third, to expand the political base. In a way, this is a mandate for the People Power Party, but it is also a goal for the entire political landscape." He added, "The current political situation is difficult and disappointing, but I hope the tangled situation will be resolved well based on the mandate I received. I also intend to consult with the Speaker with the country's interest in mind and do my best to move forward in a good direction. I will learn a lot."
Speaker Woo said, "I welcome and congratulate our Leader Han. I saw that he was overwhelmingly elected with the support of the People Power Party members. It seems there will be many things to do together going forward." He continued, "The National Assembly reflects the people's sentiment as it is, and the 22nd National Assembly is no exception. I listened carefully to Leader Han's acceptance speech where he said nothing surpasses public sentiment, and everything is won by the people's will, and that we must meet the people's expectations well. I strongly agree with that."

Regarding the ruling and opposition parties' forced passage of the four broadcasting laws despite his mediation proposal, Speaker Woo said, "I proposed that both sides stop forcing the issue, have a two-month deadline, and engage in dialogue to find a solution. Ultimately, it is very regrettable and unfortunate that it did not work out and led to a head-on confrontation." Additionally, Speaker Woo added, "I hope that in the future, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the ruling party leader, and the floor leaders of both parties will consult well and create a channel to resolve such issues."
