Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 23rd that the 'Blessing Garden' created at the Blessing House in Wondal-ri, Jukgok-myeon, won the Excellence Award at the Jeollanam-do Pretty Garden Contest.
Jeollanam-do holds the 'Pretty Garden Contest' annually to discover outstanding gardens within the province and promote them as tourist resources. This year's contest selected the final winners through document screening and expert on-site evaluations. The judging was conducted across five categories: garden design, aesthetics, originality, diversity of planting and materials, and completeness.
Located at San 99-5, Wondal-ri, Jukgok-myeon, Gokseong-gun, at an elevation of 250 meters on the mountainside, Blessing Garden is a 1,300-pyeong residential garden cultivated by Mr. Park Jae-soon (70) since 2000.
Mr. Park organized the space into five themes by renovating the barren rocky mountain and valley into a walking trail, walls, pond, lawn yard, and resting shelter.
This garden, where over 80 species of trees and more than 150 species of herbaceous plants harmonize, boasts a beautiful landscape reminiscent of the mythical Murungdo (Utopia). The landscaping along the walking trail and various sculptures offer visitors a unique enjoyment.
Mr. Park Jae-soon, representative of Blessing House, said, "I am pleased that the garden I have carefully nurtured for many years has been recognized," adding, "I will continue to maintain the garden well so that everyone who visits here can feel leisure and happiness in life."
Lee Myung-hee, head of the Forestry Division of Gokseong-gun, said, "Congratulations on Blessing Garden's award, and we will actively work to revitalize beautiful private gardens."
