Dong-Eui University Wins the 79th National University Baseball Championship
Second Championship in 12 Years After the 67th Edition
Joint Victory for Group A and B Finalists Due to Rain
Dong-Eui University (President Han Suhwan) baseball team has claimed the championship at the 79th National University Baseball Championship. This marks Dong-Eui University's second victory in this tournament, following their first win at the 67th championship in 2012, making it their first title in 12 years.
On the 18th, during the Group A final held at Boeun Sports Park Baseball Stadium in Chungbuk, the game was canceled due to a heavy downpour, resulting in Dong-Eui University and Gangneung Yeongdong University being declared co-champions.
Dong-Eui University advanced to the main tournament with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss in the group stage, which began on June 24. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Howon University 11-7, and in the semifinals, they overcame Dankook University 12-7 to reach the final.
The semifinal match against Dankook University was played over two days, July 16 and 17, due to rain. Dong-Eui University pitcher Park Buseong pitched a complete game through the ninth inning, leading his team to victory.
Park Buseong was named MVP of the tournament, Yang Changyeol received the Best Pitcher Award, Yoo Taewoong was honored with the Achievement Award, Coach Moon Wangshik received the Coach Award, and Dong-Eui Academy Chairman Kim Indo was presented with the Contribution Award.
Dong-Eui University Coach Moon Wangshik said, "It is a special feeling to win the championship in my first year as coach of my alma mater in my first national tournament. I am grateful to the players who gave their all despite the bad weather," and added, "With such a good start this year, we aim to win the next national tournament as well and achieve at least two titles."
