'Heavy Rain Warning' Issued in 3 Gyeonggi Areas
Heavy rain is forecast mainly in the northern inland areas of Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces, and damage such as power outages and flooding caused by the rain over two days has continued.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the 17th, as of 5 a.m. that day, heavy rain warnings were issued for three locations in Gyeonggi, and heavy rain advisories were in effect for two locations in Gangwon and two in Gyeonggi. Earlier, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety activated Level 1 of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters the previous night and raised the heavy rain crisis alert level from 'Interest' to 'Caution.'
From midnight to 5 a.m. that day, heavy rain poured mainly in northern Gyeonggi. The highest accumulated rainfall was 132.0 mm in Paju, Gyeonggi, followed by 61.0 mm in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi; 60.5 mm in Cheonan, Chungnam; 59.1 mm in Cheongju, Chungbuk; and 56.0 mm in Mungyeong, Gyeongbuk.
Due to the rain continuing from the previous day, four houses in Chungnam suffered power outages, and 161 houses were flooded in Jeonnam. In Jeonnam, 275 hectares (ha) of rice paddies were submerged.

As of 5 a.m., the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters reported that a total of 406 households and 599 people evacuated in Chungnam, Jeonnam, and Gyeongnam. Among them, 204 households were unaccounted for, mostly having evacuated to village halls and senior centers due to concerns over landslides. Due to the ongoing heavy rain, six ferry routes including Mokpo-Hongdo and Jindo-Jukdo were suspended, and entry to three underground roads in Busan, Chungbuk, and Chungnam is also blocked.
