Hunet's '4-Day Workweek' After 2 Years: Boosting Work Efficiency and Sustaining Sales Growth
Complete 4-Day Workweek with No Annual Leave Deduction or Salary Adjustment
10x Increase in Job Application Rate, Half the Turnover Rate
95.5% Employee Satisfaction
Corporate education specialist Hunet has operated a four-day workweek for two years, resulting in increased employee satisfaction and work efficiency, sustaining sales growth.
On the 16th, Hunet announced the key achievements marking two years since implementing the 'four-day workweek.' Hunet has been implementing a four-day workweek with Fridays as official holidays since July 2022. Unlike some companies that introduced reduced working hours with restrictions such as using annual leave or adjusting salaries, Hunet operates a full four-day workweek without any conditions.
First, Hunet experienced noticeable changes in recruitment after adopting the four-day workweek. Since the system's introduction, the application competition rate has increased more than tenfold compared to before, expanding the influx of talented individuals. Compared to last year, it has increased more than fivefold, with competition intensifying year by year. Conversely, employee turnover has decreased to about half compared to before the four-day workweek. This indicates a higher possibility of attracting and retaining talent to grow the company.
Employee satisfaction with the four-day workweek is very high. In a recent employee survey, 95.5% responded that they are 'satisfied with the four-day workweek,' and 83% stated that they 'utilize the four-day workweek well at least three times a month.' When asked whether they could perform work on the Friday off, 97.6% of employees answered 'yes.' Reasons included 'handling customer requests,' 'urgent issues,' and 'completing tasks within deadlines.' This shows that employees are prepared to voluntarily work regardless of the day off if necessary.
In terms of work immersion, the four-day workweek also showed positive results. Hunet explained that employees are more focused during working hours, the total number of employees is maintained without additional hiring despite reduced working hours, and the company continues to grow by more than 10% compared to the same period last year.
Hunet employees identified the following as necessary for the system’s sustainability: recognizing the four-day workweek as a means to improve productivity rather than a welfare benefit, strengthening output-focused performance management rather than input, and fostering awareness and responsibility to handle work even on days off.
