Doosan Robotics Creates 'Unmanned' Synergy by Acquiring Bobcat
Promotion of New Concept Product Development for Unmanned and Automated Business
Doosan Robotics' acquisition of Doosan Bobcat is interpreted as aiming for new synergies in the small construction equipment and collaborative robot businesses in the upcoming 'unmanned' era.
On the 11th, Doosan announced that it will reorganize its affiliates' governance structure into three major business sectors: 'Clean Energy,' 'Smart Machines,' and 'Semiconductors & Advanced Materials,' adjusting the affiliates to be positioned under each sector. Doosan Enerbility, Doosan Bobcat, and Doosan Robotics held board meetings on the same day to approve the governance restructuring plan, including subsidiary spin-offs, mergers, and comprehensive stock exchanges.
Doosan Robotics and Doosan Bobcat will lead the Smart Machines sector.
Doosan Robotics, ranked number one in the domestic collaborative robot market, was launched in 2015. It generates more than 60% of its total sales overseas through over 100 sales channels in more than 40 countries, and successfully went public (IPO) last October.
Doosan Bobcat, regarded as a leader in the small construction equipment market, achieved sales of KRW 2.3946 trillion and operating profit of KRW 326 billion with an operating margin of 13.6% in the first quarter of this year, driven by strong small equipment sales in the North American region. Last month, it began constructing a new factory in Mexico, expanding its global production bases to eight countries, including South Korea, the United States, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, India, and China.
Doosan Robotics is expected to accelerate growth in advanced markets by leveraging Doosan Bobcat's networks, financing capabilities, and management infrastructure in North America, Europe, and other regions.
With the expansion of automation in Doosan Bobcat's production facilities, the supply of collaborative robot products to these facilities is also expected to increase, which is anticipated to have a positive effect on captive sales growth.
In particular, Doosan Bobcat, which is focusing on unmanned and automated operations, will be able to diversify applications by integrating Doosan Robotics' robot technology, and it is expected to promote the development of new concept products combining the technologies of both companies.
Earlier this year, both companies received innovation awards at 'CES 2024' held in the United States, recognizing their advanced electrification and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
