"Traces of Body and Mind, Hurry to Erase Them" Hydrogen Bus Supporting Firefighters' Rest, Promoted Directly
Hyundai Motor Group released a campaign video titled “Saryuk, Sachil” on the 8th, depicting a hydrogen fuel cell bus supporting firefighter recovery. “Saryuk, Sachil” is a firefighter radio communication term meaning “Understood? Got it.”
The video centers on a senior firefighter’s advice to his juniors. While firefighting is an important duty, the message emphasizes the need to rest sufficiently and take care of oneself.
Firefighters are easily exposed to harmful substances at large fire scenes, but the video shows that they can rest comfortably and receive maintenance inside a hydrogen bus that emits no exhaust gases. Previously, Hyundai Motor Group collaborated with the National Fire Agency and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province to donate hydrogen fuel cell buses as firefighter recovery support vehicles.

During breaks, they recharge inside the recovery support hydrogen bus, which emits only water and produces no noise or vibration, until their next shift.
Firefighters from the Incheon, Jeju, and Gangwon Fire Headquarters directly participated in the video production. The voice dubbing of the title “Saryuk, Sachil” and the dispatch scenes feature Fire Captain Choi Bang-gyun and Fire Lieutenant Kim Min-hyun from the Incheon Fire Headquarters. Lee Chang-hak, the chief of the Gangwon Fire Headquarters and a 33-year veteran firefighter, served as the narrator. Lee is also well known for rescuing a 6-year-old child trapped under debris in an apartment basement in Taichung City during the 1999 Taiwan earthquake, when he was dispatched from Korea.
Since last year, Hyundai Motor Group has sequentially donated eight recovery support vehicles to Gangwon, Gyeongbuk, Incheon, Jeonbuk, Ulsan, and Chungnam. They plan to donate two additional firefighter recovery support vehicles and provide vehicles and rehabilitation equipment to the National Fire Hospital, which will be established for the first time next year in Chungbuk Innovation City.

The recovery support vehicle featured in the released video is based on the Universe FCEV (hydrogen fuel cell vehicle). It was deployed in Jeju, where Korea’s first green hydrogen demonstration complex was established. During production, multiple discussions were held with on-site firefighters and the National Fire Agency who will actually use this bus. The design and convenience features took into account the need for long hours of standby at scenes for firefighting, maritime rescue, and relief activities in areas affected by heavy rain and typhoons.
To remove contaminants from rescue equipment used on-site, the vehicle is equipped with a high-pressure air gun and water gun on the exterior. To prevent secondary contamination, there is a separate hanger for storing used firefighting gear. The interior includes a U-shaped meeting space that can be used as a command center, recliner seats, and a cooking area. An air vent that allows external use of the vehicle’s power is also available.
The global version of this video is scheduled to be released this evening Korea time. The global version features Peter Lee, a Korean-American firefighter working at a fire station in New Jersey, USA, as the narrator. A company official said, “We will continue to create campaigns that sincerely develop mobility technology for a better life for humanity and demonstrate the positive use of technology.”
