Chairman Kim Hong-il's Resignation... Opposition Criticizes as "Run Hong-il" and "Yongsan Puppet"
Full Committee Meeting of the Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee Held on the 2nd
The opposition harshly criticized Kim Hong-il, Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, for his voluntary resignation, using harsh expressions such as "Run Hong-il" and "Yongsan puppet."
At the plenary meeting of the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee held on the 2nd, a confrontation between the ruling and opposition parties took place regarding the voluntary resignation of Chairman Kim, against whom an impeachment motion had been filed.
The first to speak was Lee Hae-min, a member of the Innovation Party for Justice. He raised his voice, saying, "The arsonist Run Hong-il, who set fire to seize control of broadcasting and ran away, will be remembered by the people."
Hwang Jeong-ah, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, called it "an attempt to turn public broadcasting into the regime's pet dog," and pointed out the illegality of the two-person system of the Korea Communications Commission, referring to Chairman Kim as a "Yongsan puppet."
Lee Hun-gi, a Democratic Party member, criticized Lee Jin-sook, former president of Daejeon MBC, who is mentioned as a successor to the chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, saying, "She was at the forefront of the MBC takeover and privatization," and added, "The MBC takeover scenario is underway."
The ruling party also rebutted the opposition's claims and continued a power struggle over Chairman Kim's resignation for more than an hour after the meeting began.
Park Chung-kwon, a member of the People Power Party, said to the opposition, "You want to return public broadcasting not to the people but to Representative Lee Jae-myung."
