Extension of Smart Farm Installation Period on Farmland from 8 to 16 Years... Foreign Workers' Dormitories Now Allowed in Farmers' and Fishermen's Housing
Enforcement of the Revised Enforcement Decree of the Farmland Act on the 3rd
From now on, smart farms can be installed on farmland for up to 16 years. Additionally, agricultural and fishery workers' housing can be used as accommodation for foreign workers.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 2nd that the Enforcement Decree of the Farmland Act, which includes these provisions, will be enforced starting from the 3rd.
First, to create an environment optimized for crop growth, such as controlling temperature, nutrients, and light remotely, the temporary use period of farmland for other purposes has been extended from the original maximum of 8 years to 16 years through consultations with related industries to promote the spread of smart crop cultivation facilities in the form of temporary structures equipped with such devices.
In addition, standards for smart crop cultivation facilities in the form of temporary structures have been newly established to build a foundation that allows stable production of agricultural products in standardized facilities.
Along with this, agricultural and fishery workers' housing that can be installed within agricultural promotion zones can now be used as residential facilities for both domestic and foreign workers, and the site area has been expanded from 660㎡ or less to 1000㎡ or less. Although the number of domestic and foreign workers supporting agricultural and fishery activities is increasing, rural areas lack residential facilities unlike industrial complex areas, and even if similar housing exists in eup and myeon areas, it is inconvenient due to the distance from farms.
