Korea National Oil Corporation (President Kim Dongseob) participated in the 2024 Spring Conference of the Korean Society of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineers, held at Sono Calm Hotel in Yeosu over two days from the 20th to the 21st. During the event, the corporation shared its proprietary research results on eco-friendly new energy and oil development technologies applied at overseas project sites with academia, industry, and research institutes.

View original imageThe academic conference featured general sessions on oil and gas development, renewable energy, geophysics and geophysical exploration, and CCUS & hydrogen, as well as special sessions on trending topics in the industry such as game changers for the transition to a decarbonized economy and hydrogen energy.
On this occasion, the corporation presented and shared with academia its research findings on topics such as optimization of well spacing through reservoir simulation, considerations for measuring natural hydrogen on domestic sites, and drilling of oil sands wells in Canada using distance measuring equipment, covering both oil and gas development and hydrogen-related subjects.
Additionally, through a dedicated promotional booth, the corporation introduced the 'Gwanggaeto Project,' a master plan for domestic continental shelf development established to ensure national energy security, as well as major overseas oil development projects, ongoing proprietary research projects, and the oil development technology data disclosure system.
Seo Jeonggyu, Head of the Global Technology Center at Korea National Oil Corporation, stated, "As a state-run oil company safeguarding national energy security and discovering eco-friendly future growth engines, we are actively pursuing the 'Gwanggaeto Project.' We hope that this academic conference will serve as a platform for technological and academic exchange and cooperation among academia, industry, and research institutes, leading to significant achievements together."
The 2024 Spring Conference of the Korean Society of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineers, hosted by the society, was sponsored by 18 member companies including the corporation, Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corporation, and POSCO International, and attended by 19 domestic and international universities.
