Inosang, Incheon City Council Member, Proposes Nation's First 'Book Donation Promotion Ordinance'
The first-ever ordinance to promote book donations nationwide has been proposed, raising expectations for the spread of a book donation culture.
On the 20th, the Incheon Metropolitan Council announced that the 'Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education Public Library Book Donation Promotion Ordinance,' proposed by Education Committee member Oh Sang Lee (Democratic Party, Nonhyeon 1-dong, Nonhyeon 2-dong, Nonhyeon Gojan-dong), has passed the standing committee.
The ordinance focuses on receiving books owned by citizens and students to increase the materials of public libraries, while also donating surplus books such as unused books from public libraries to institutions in need. It is expected that through the promotion of book donations, a knowledge base centered on public libraries will be established, providing an opportunity for knowledge sharing and dissemination.
Assemblyman Lee said, "The ordinance will serve as a foundation for fostering a book donation culture not only in Incheon but nationwide," adding, "We expect the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education public libraries to play an important role in sharing knowledge and spreading culture."
