People Power Party Files Jurisdictional Dispute Appeal Over Forced Standing Committee Assignments
Submitted to the Constitutional Court under the names of all 108 National Assembly members
Choo Kyung-ho: "Democratic Party has become a one-man dominated party under Lee Jae-myung"
The People Power Party will file a constitutional dispute adjudication with the Constitutional Court in the name of all 108 members of the National Assembly. This is to confirm the invalidity of Speaker Woo Won-sik's forced assignment of standing committee members and the unilateral election of standing committee chairs.
On the 18th, Choo Kyung-ho, the floor leader of the People Power Party, said at a floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly, "On the 5th, Speaker Woo and the Democratic Party of Korea unilaterally proceeded with the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and the election of standing committee chairs without any agreement on the legislative schedule with the People Power Party, and forcibly assigned standing committee members."
Floor Leader Choo emphasized, "These actions severely infringe upon the people's constitutional right to representation and the right to participate in the procedures for electing the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly," adding, "The People Power Party is filing a request with the Constitutional Court to confirm the infringement of authority by Speaker Woo and others and to declare these acts null and void as unconstitutional dictatorship." He continued, "Unlike the 21st National Assembly when the request was filed in the name of the floor leader representing the then People Power Party members, this time all 108 members are submitting it together," and urged, "We call for the wise decision of the Constitutional Court."
He pointed out, "The phrase 'one should not be intoxicated by an overwhelming election victory' came from a recent public debate evaluating the Democratic Party's general election," and added, "However, it seems the Democratic Party has already become intoxicated. According to a real-time Korea Gallup survey conducted over two days starting from the 14th, 49% of the public negatively evaluate the Democratic Party's unilateral election of standing committee chairs, which amounts to half of the people."

Regarding the Democratic Party's decision to reflect party members' opinions in the elections for the Speaker and floor leader and to change the party leader's resignation rule into a discretionary clause, Floor Leader Choo criticized, "The Democratic Party is neglecting public sentiment and is solely focused on transforming into a factional party to save Leader Lee," adding, "An absolute regime solely for Leader Lee has been completed. Now, the Democratic Party has become a one-person dominant party 'by Lee Jae-myung, for Lee Jae-myung, and of Lee Jae-myung.'"
