Hyundai Motor Group is partnering with Soongsil University to cultivate talent in the smart industrial safety field.

On the 13th, Hyundai Motor Group announced that it signed a business agreement the previous day at Soongsil University in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, to establish a re-education contract department for employees, the "Hyundai Motor Group Advanced Convergence Safety Engineering Department (Master's Program)."

As new technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and big data are being introduced not only in manufacturing processes but also in workplace safety management, the aim is to secure experts suited to these changes.

The Advanced Convergence Safety Engineering Department will be established as a separate master's program within Soongsil University's Graduate School of Safety Convergence. The curriculum will integrate the two fields of "smart technology" and "industrial safety."

Hyundai Motor Group plans to select about 20 employees annually from safety-related divisions and on-site supervisors across its group companies starting in September this year, aiming to produce around 100 specialists by 2030. Tuition fees will be fully supported.

The courses are broadly divided into three categories: ▲Smart ▲Industrial Psychology ▲General Industrial Safety. Subjects to be offered include "Understanding Industrial Safety Laws and Systems," "Safety Accident Investigation and Analysis Techniques," "Safety Leadership and Communication Psychology," "Safety Strategies in the Fourth Industrial Revolution Era," "Structure and Principles of Smart Factory Machinery and Equipment," "Risk Assessment of Smart New Technologies," "Safety IoT Systems," and "Smart Safety Issues Seminar." All classes are designed based on preliminary surveys targeting Hyundai Motor Group safety personnel to tailor the content to field needs.

Additionally, Hyundai Motor Group and Soongsil University will provide opportunities to participate in academic activities such as research presentations (forums), organize visits to exemplary safety management workplaces, and operate research paper study groups, among various other programs. The plan is to enhance synergy between research activities and fieldwork going forward.

Kim Geol, President of Hyundai Motor Group, stated, "Through industrial cooperation with Soongsil University, we hope to elevate the Group's safety capabilities to the next level and lay the foundation for preventing industrial accidents. We aim to foster leaders with new mindsets who can create an advanced safety culture unique to Hyundai Motor Group, allowing safety culture to naturally spread throughout the workplaces where all employees work together."

Jang Beom-sik, President of Soongsil University, said, "With this agreement, the Hyundai Motor Group Advanced Convergence Safety Engineering Department will open a new horizon for the mutual development of Hyundai Motor and Soongsil University, and through talent cultivation, it will serve as an important foundation for preventing major accidents and establishing an advanced safety culture."
