Dong-A University Department of Nursing Holds 27th Nightingale Pledge Ceremony
103 Third-Year Students Receive Nursing Medals and Take First Step as Prospective Nurses
The Department of Nursing at Dong-A University (Dean: Kang Jiyeon) held the '27th Nightingale Pledge Ceremony 2024'.
The 'Nightingale Pledge Ceremony' is an event where students recite the pledge that embodies the nursing spirit of Nightingale, deeply instilling a sense of mission and responsibility required of nurses, and marking their first step as future nurses.
The ceremony, recently held at Dawoo Hall on Dong-A University’s Bumin Campus, was attended by Dean Kang Jiyeon, nursing faculty members, Byun Sukjin, Head of Nursing, officials from Dong-A University Hospital’s nursing department, Won Yunhee, President of the Nursing Alumni Association, Vice President Jung Hyunkyung, and nursing students.
At the event, 103 third-year nursing students received nursing medals and took the 'Nightingale Pledge'.
Kim Naye and Lee Sojung, students who received the nursing medals, said, "It was a time for us to reflect on what kind of nurse we want to become in the future," and added, "Reciting the pledge made us reconsider the mindset and duties we should have as nurses."
The Department of Nursing at Dong-A University admitted its first class in March 1996, and later established master's and doctoral programs in 2001 and 2010, respectively. The department continues to strengthen connections with community healthcare professionals and has produced nursing practitioners, researchers, and professors.

In March 2019, the department was elevated to the Department of Nursing and was selected as an institution for the '2022 Nursing College Clinical Education Support Project.' The 'PIVOT Simulation Center' was established to provide students with diverse hands-on training using advanced facilities and equipment on campus.
