West Sea Coast Guard Agency Reports 58% of Emergency Patients Are Aged 60 and Over... An Average of 73 Emergency Patients Occur Monthly
876 People Transported Last Year, High Incidence at Mokpo Coast Guard During Summer
The Seohae Regional Coast Guard Agency (Chief Kim In-chang) announced that an average of 73 emergency patients occur monthly in the maritime areas of Jeonnam and Jeonbuk, with those aged 60 and over accounting for 6 out of every 10 patients.
Announcing the 2023 emergency patient transport status and analysis results, the Seohae Regional Coast Guard Agency reported that the total number of emergency patients transported last year from Gunsan, Buan, Mokpo, Wando, and Yeosu was 876.

View original imageThe Coast Guard has been working to identify problems in emergency patient transport and to establish an efficient transport system. The monthly number of emergency patients mainly concentrated in the summer months, with 91 and 102 patients in July and August respectively, and an average of 73 patients per month.
According to statistics, patients in their 60s and 70s were the most numerous with 151 and 126 patients respectively, and those aged 80 and above numbered 134, with patients aged 60 and over accounting for 58% of the total.
By region, the Mokpo Coast Guard Station accounted for 342 patients, or 39% of the total, followed by Wando and Yeosu.

A Seohae Coast Guard official stated, “Most emergency patients occurred in island areas, and the number of patients in island regions accounts for a significant portion,” adding, “We will continue to prepare systematic emergency patient rescue plans and do our best for the maritime safety of the public.”
