Naver Data Center in Sejong Obtains Eco-Friendly Certification 'LEED Platinum'
Naver announced on the 4th that each Sejong data center has obtained the 'LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum' certification. LEED is an eco-friendly building certification system implemented by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Each Sejong achieved the highest score among global hyperscale data centers. In this evaluation, each Sejong was primarily recognized for practicing sustainable data center (IDC) operations by securing energy efficiency and protecting natural green spaces from the design and construction stages.
Each Sejong embodies Naver's eco-friendly operation strategy. Based on the experience accumulated over 10 years through the first IDC, each Chuncheon, each Sejong was also designed considering the surrounding terrain and ecosystem, and various eco-friendly materials were used during the construction phase.
Each Sejong cools server rooms 24 hours a day using natural wind through the third-generation 'NAMU (NAVER Air Membrane Unit)' air conditioning system developed in-house, and improves energy efficiency by utilizing the heat emitted from the server rooms. It is also actively securing power and using renewable energy through photovoltaic power generation facilities and geothermal energy installed within each Sejong. Naver expects to save about 13,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity annually, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 6,000 tons.
