"Lost 90kg to Become Air Force Officer"... 394 New Officers Commissioned
Air Force Education Command 12-Week Training Officers Commissioning Ceremony
The Air Force has welcomed 394 new officers.
On the 30th, according to the Air Force, the Air Force Education Command held the commissioning ceremony for the 152nd class of Officer Candidate Students at the large parade ground. The candidates enlisted in the Basic Military Training Unit of the Education Command on February 26 and underwent 12 weeks of training, including guerrilla training, base defense training, and comprehensive outdoor exercises.
Second Lieutenant Kim Young-jae received the Minister of National Defense Award, given to the officer with the highest academic achievement. Second Lieutenant Gal Bu-gang received the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Award, Second Lieutenant Lee Jun-seok received the Air Force Chief of Staff Award, and Second Lieutenant Jeon Jeong-min received the Air Force Education Commander's Award.
Second Lieutenant Lee Woo-hyun (pictured) became the protagonist of a 'human victory' through a desperate diet to become an officer. He once weighed up to 160 kg due to stress-induced binge eating, and was diagnosed as a Grade 4 social service agent in the 2019 Military Manpower Administration physical examination due to liver enzyme levels more than four times the normal range and severe flat feet.
However, driven by his determination to become an officer, he undertook a harsh diet and lost nearly 90 kg, currently maintaining a weight of around 70 kg. After enlistment, he also received a 'special grade' in the candidate physical fitness test. Lieutenant Lee pledged, "Even after commissioning, I will fight against the impossible as an Air Force officer."

The names of the three Gal brothers?Bu-gang, Bu-heon, and Bu-geon?mean to protect and uphold the nation. Second Lieutenant Seo Ha-jun attracted attention as the biological grandson of the late Seo Sang-su, a Vietnam War veteran, and the maternal grandson of Park Kyung-tae, a veteran of both the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
