A woman in her 40s who stabbed a teenage girl she had quarreled with using a weapon was sentenced to a suspended prison term.
On the 23rd, Yonhap News reported that Judge Hwang Yoon-chul of the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 10 sentenced A (41) to six months in prison with a one-year suspension on charges including special assault. Judge Hwang also ordered A to undergo probation and receive treatment for mental illness.
Earlier, A was indicted on charges of stabbing B (13) with a weapon in a park in Seo-gu, Incheon on July 24 of last year, causing injury. Investigations revealed that upon receiving a call that her child had quarreled with B, she drove to the park and committed the crime. At the time, B sustained a wound on the crown of her head. Additionally, while heading to the park, A also swung the weapon at C (17), whom she met for the first time; C was injured in the abdomen and left arm and received hospital treatment.

Judge Hwang explained the sentencing by stating, "Considering the method of the defendant's crime, the nature of the offense is not good," but added, "She acknowledged the crime and showed a remorseful attitude." He continued, "Some victims have reached settlements," and noted, "Considering that she has no prior convictions exceeding fines and that the crime was committed in a state of diminished mental capacity."
