Suncheon City, Seoul National University Professor Kim Yoon's Special Lecture on 'Diagnosis of Medical Reality in Jeonnam Region'
Building a Regional Self-Sufficient Medical System, Consensus Formed in Invited Special Lecture
Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Kwan-gyu) announced that on the 9th, they invited Professor Kim Yoon from Seoul National University, who transformed from a leading medical policy expert in Korea to a politician and is about to enter the 22nd National Assembly, to hold a special lecture on the theme of “Solutions for Essential Medical Care in the Jeonnam Region.”
The special lecture held at the Suncheon Culture and Health Center Multipurpose Hall was attended by about 400 people, including community leaders, residents' autonomy committee members, civil society organizations, medical institutions, and university officials, who showed deep interest in the practical issues of medical policy that have recently become a hot topic.
The lecture covered ▲Analysis results of medical indicators in the eastern region of Jeonnam ▲Current status, causes, and improvement plans for vulnerable essential public medical care ▲Demand and expansion plans for tertiary hospital beds in the eastern region of Jeonnam ▲Plans to establish a regional medical development fund in the eastern region of Jeonnam.
Professor Kim Yoon emphasized, “As a result of analyzing medical indicators in the eastern region of Jeonnam, the overall inpatient mortality rate is 20% higher than the national average, indicating that Suncheon is a region with an imbalance in medical supply and requires a tertiary hospital of appropriate scale,” and added, “Every citizen has the right to enjoy universal essential medical care and quality care without discrimination between urban and rural areas.”
Suncheon Mayor Noh Kwan-gyu said, “Through this special lecture, we have drawn citizens’ sympathy for the necessity of attracting a medical school and establishing a regionally complete medical system,” and added, “We will steadfastly promote health and medical policies to prevent regional extinction and improve living conditions.”
