Wando-gun Hosts National Youth Drone Sports Competition
Drone Obstacle Racing and Battle Drone Events Held
‘Drone Night Show with Youth’ Presented to Great Acclaim
On the 9th, Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that the ‘2024 National Youth Drone Sports Competition’ held at Cheonghaejin Sports Center on the 5th was successfully concluded.
The ‘2024 National Youth Drone Sports Competition’ was hosted by Wando-gun and co-organized by Wando Youth Culture House, Wando-gun Youth Counseling Welfare Center, and the Korea Drone Association.
The competition was organized to enhance youth’s drone operation skills and creativity and to contribute to the creation of future jobs. It was promoted as part of the urban regeneration recognized project selected through the 2024 government joint evaluation and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s public contest project (Wando Byeolbada Healing Culture Youth Platform).

The competition was held under the theme “Marine Healing Wando, to the World and the Future with Drones,” featuring four official events, two local events, and six experience events.
Students from all over the country showcased their skills, with Ban Gi-bin (Gosil Elementary School 6th grade) winning 1st place in SW Coding Drone, Jeon Jun-woo (Hyochon Elementary School 6th grade) taking 1st place in Drone Obstacle Racing, Hwang Tae-min (Hyochon Elementary School 6th grade) winning 1st place in PRC-Speed Drone Elementary Division, Heo Seung-woo (Muntae Middle School 2nd grade) taking 1st place in PRC-Speed Drone Middle and High School Division, and the elementary division team Battle Drone 1st place going to Hyeonga (Hyochon Elementary School), while the middle and high school division 1st place was awarded to the Minyeo Maratang team.
Youth from Wando-gun also placed 3rd in SW Coding Drone (Wi Geon, Wando Elementary School 6th grade), 4th in the elementary division team Battle Drone (Myeongjung Hari, Wando Elementary School & Wando Central Elementary School), and 4th in the Battle Drone team event (Bisang Hari, Wando Girls’ Middle School, Wando Middle School, and Wando High School).
Meanwhile, the county conducted coding drone and drone education for 50 youths and held a ‘Drone Night Show with Youth’ on the opening day of the Jangbogo Seafood Festival.
During the Drone Night Show, 300 drones were used to display six images symbolizing Wando, including ‘Marine Healing Wando,’ attracting attention.
Wando County Governor Shin Woo-cheol attended the competition and delivered a greeting, saying, “Just as drones are leading the 4th industrial revolution, I hope our youth learn drone technology and become talents who will lead the future drone industry.”
