Launch of Public-Private Partnership Bio-Health Data Platform Council
Ministry of Science and ICT Forms 'Bio·Health Data Platform Council'
On the 16th, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it has formed the 'Bio·Health Data Platform Council' together with related ministries, companies, universities, research institutes, hospitals, and other private experts to link and utilize bio·health data and create value, and held the launch ceremony on the same day.
This public-private council is co-chaired by Lee Chang-yoon, the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, and Lee Do-heon, a private expert and professor at KAIST. It includes key ministries related to bio·health data such as the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and the Personal Information Protection Commission, as well as private experts from industry, academia, research, and hospitals.
The council was established to address concerns that despite recent cases of approval for data-based digital therapeutics, there are still many opinions pointing out difficulties in accessing and utilizing data necessary for revitalizing the bio new industry in various private sectors.
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to actively use the council as a channel for public-private communication and cooperation to build and operate a pan-government integrated bio·health data platform that enhances safety and convenience from linking scattered data to improving quality, and sharing, analyzing, and utilizing data. At the first launch ceremony, discussions were held on the 'Korean-style 1 Million Bio Big Data Project (National Integrated Bio Big Data Construction)', efficient linkage methods between existing and new data, computing infrastructure for data analysis and utilization, and activation plans such as providing analysis solutions.
Lee Chang-yoon, the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, “We will build a high-quality data platform and devise utilization plans so that bio·health data produced by the public and private sectors can be properly used to create value.”
