Gyeonggi-do Provides 3.6 Billion KRW Operating Funds to 752 Small Libraries
Gyeonggi Province will select 752 outstanding small libraries and provide operating expenses worth 3.6 billion KRW to revitalize the operation of small libraries.
Small libraries are small in scale but serve as reading and community activity spaces where any resident can meet books and neighbors. Currently, 1,676 small libraries are in operation. Gyeonggi Province discovers outstanding small libraries through annual evaluations.
According to the evaluation results of small libraries, Gyeonggi Province provides differentiated operating expenses: 6.1 million KRW for grade A, 5.1 million KRW for grade B, and 4.1 million KRW for grade C. The supported budget can be freely used for expenses necessary for library operation, such as purchasing books, equipment, consumables, and actual expenses for volunteer activities.
Kim Dong-ju, Director of the Library Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We expect this to help the stable and sustainable operation of financially struggling small libraries and provide high-quality services to local residents."
