The Pohang City athletes are set to challenge for their fourth consecutive overall victory at the Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival.

View original imageOn the 12th, Pohang City, together with the Pohang City Sports Council (Chairman Najuyeong), held a send-off ceremony for the Pohang City athletes at the Daejam Hall of City Hall for the 62nd Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival.
The ceremony was attended by about 400 people, including participating athletes, executives and members of participating sports organizations, executives, elders, and committee members of the Sports Council, chairpersons of town, township, and neighborhood councils, and supporters.
The event proceeded in the following order: reports on the preparation status of athlete teams from 30 sports organizations, awarding of the team flag, reading of the victory pledge, screening of the Provincial Sports Festival video, supporter pairing, donation delivery, and chanting of the victory slogan.
The Pohang City athletes, with 674 participants competing in all 90 divisions across 30 sports from the preliminary judo matches starting on May 3 until the final day of the competition on the 13th, pledged victory at the send-off ceremony aiming for their fourth consecutive overall championship.
The city plans to encourage and support the athletes by visiting training and competition venues through citywide supporter pairings for each sport.
Chairman Najuyeong of the Pohang City Sports Council said in his address, “Let us all work together as one with the athletes and supporters so that Pohang City can achieve its fourth consecutive overall championship. The Sports Council will also do its best to help the athletes achieve the best results.”
Mayor Kangdeok Lee stated, “Having achieved three consecutive overall championships last year with excellent results, we will support the Pohang City athletes with one heart again this year. I hope they demonstrate all their prepared skills and achieve good results in this competition, further enhancing the image of Pohang as a sports city.”

The 62nd Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival is scheduled to take place from the 10th to the 13th of next month in the Gumi City area, with about 12,000 athletes and officials from 22 cities and counties participating in competitions across 30 sports (28 official and 2 demonstration events).
