Yangcheon-gu, Customized Education for Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Childcare by Stage
Mother and Child Health Promotion Center Operates Customized Timely Education Programs for 2,000 Residents Including Prospective Parents, Pregnant Women, and Families with Infants... Covering Childbirth Preparation Classes, Prenatal Yoga, Breastfeeding Clinic, Baby Massage, and Psychological Counseling
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will operate a year-round “timely customized education program” from pregnancy to childbirth and childcare at the Maternal and Child Health Promotion Center for about 2,000 people, including infertile couples, pregnant women, and families with infants and young children, to overcome the ultra-low birthrate crisis and contribute to maternal and child health welfare.
This education program consists of a total of 97 sessions across 13 programs in five fields: ▲prospective parents ▲pregnant women ▲infants and young children ▲children ▲psychological support. The district plans to invite experts in each field to operate life cycle-specific specialized education that families can attend together. Depending on the characteristics of each course, sessions will be conducted either face-to-face or via online video education, and an “education-only open chat room” will be established and operated to ensure smooth guidance and interactive communication.
In particular, this year, reflecting on-site opinions from last year’s satisfaction survey requesting the establishment of programs that allow babies to accompany participants, a new special lecture called “Our Family’s Five Senses Talk” was created, which uses play kits and other tools for developmental experience.
Additionally, to respond promptly to various infant and young child accidents, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) practice has been strengthened in the “Infant and Young Child Safety Education,” and a healing practice using flowers has been added and expanded in the “Mom and Mom’s Heart Together Face-to-Face Education.”
First, for prospective parents and pregnant women, the “Pre- and Post-Childbirth Program” includes the nighttime online video education “Moonlit Night Baby Welcome Class,” where couples participate to learn childbirth preparation and postpartum health care methods; the “Wise Childbirth Preparation Class,” where breastfeeding experts provide one-stop guidance from newborn care to proper breastfeeding methods; “Healing Yoga” for pregnant women’s physical fitness management; the “DIY Sewing Prenatal Education Class,” where participants make baby items such as mobiles, baby jackets, and attachment dolls while practicing prenatal education; a special lecture on “Nutritional Management for Healthy Childbirth” linked with specialists; and a “One-on-One Clinic” for breastfeeding mothers.
For the “Infant and Young Childcare Program” that shares smart parenting methods, there is the “Baby Massage Class,” which promotes growth and development through parent-baby interaction; “Our Family’s Five Senses Talk,” which encourages sensory development through rhythm, kits, and interactive play; and “Infant and Young Child Safety Education,” which includes safety theory education, CPR, and emergency airway obstruction first aid practice.
Moreover, as a “Mindfulness and Psychological Support Program” to help relieve anxiety and depression throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare periods, the district offers “Mind Talk Healing Counseling,” which provides continuous management services from depression screening tests to one-on-one intensive counseling by experts; the “Mom (Mom) and Mom’s Heart Together Project,” a six-week course of self-health management activity support, care lectures, and healing experiences conducted with the Central Infertility Depression Counseling Center; and a special lecture on “Prenatal and Postnatal Depression Prevention” in cooperation with the Yangcheon Mental Health Welfare Center.
The tuition for the timely customized education programs at the Yangcheon-gu Maternal and Child Health Promotion Center is entirely free, and those wishing to participate can apply on a first-come, first-served basis through the district office’s integrated reservation portal on its website.
As a result of operating the program last year, a total of 2,058 students participated in 98 sessions, showing a high satisfaction rate of over 98%.
Along with this, the district is pooling efforts to overcome the low birthrate through comprehensive maternal and child health projects, including prenatal health checkups for healthy pregnancy preparation, health management by pregnancy weeks, maternal and newborn health care and postpartum care expense support, breast pump rental, and medical expense support for mothers and infants.
