Convenience store CU's liquor reservation purchase service 'CU BAR' is now available on the Kurly app.
BGF Retail, which operates CU, announced on the 2nd that the CU BAR liquor pickup service, which was piloted within the Kurly app, will officially launch as a regular service this month.
BGF Retail and Kurly signed a business agreement last year to promote a 'joint business based on online and offline platforms' and have been carrying out various projects to expand customer touchpoints for both companies.
CU BAR is a liquor pickup service operated through CU's commerce app 'Pocket CU.' Starting this month, customers can select products and pickup stores from the 'CU BAR Pickup' menu within the Kurly channel, make a payment, and pick up their orders at any CU store nationwide within three days. The Kurly app allows users to check nearby CU stores on a map, and after completing the order, customers must present the generated pickup QR code and their ID at the CU store. However, Jeju and island regions are excluded.
The available products include over 300 types such as whiskey, wine, and beer, mainly consisting of top-selling items from CU BAR. The two companies plan to gradually increase the range of products after stabilizing the service.
Through this service launch, CU aims to increase new customer inflow and ultimately boost sales at CU stores. Kurly also expects to enhance customer convenience by expanding liquor pickup areas and times through its partnership with CU.
According to CU, CU BAR is recognized as an influential liquor purchase channel, with premium whiskey worth approximately 3.3 million KRW sold out immediately during a discount promotion. The year-over-year sales growth rates for CU BAR were ▲102.6% in 2021 ▲145.2% in 2022 ▲190.8% in 2023.
To commemorate the service launch, the two companies will hold a first-come, first-served popular whiskey sale event. The event will offer about 30 highly demanded products such as ▲Hibiki Harmony ▲Yamazaki 12 Years ▲Balvenie 16 Years ▲Knapp Creek ▲818 Tequila Eight Reserve at discounts of up to 51%. The event runs for seven days from 11 a.m. on the 2nd until the 8th.
Additionally, every Wednesday, a regular promotion will feature special prices on two types each of beer and whiskey. Details can be checked on a separately created event page within the Kurly app on the day of the event.
Song Jitaek, Head of Innovation at BGF Retail, said, "CU and Kurly have launched a service that combines the strengths of convenience stores and e-commerce to enhance customers' shopping convenience. Going forward, CU will continue to develop various businesses that cross online and offline channels to provide new shopping experiences and strengthen brand competitiveness."
