Hyundai Steel to Establish LNG Power Plant... 800 Billion KRW Investment Over 3 Years
Goal to Establish Dangjin Steelworks in 2028
As Part of Carbon Neutrality Roadmap Implementation
Hyundai Steel is planning to establish a liquefied natural gas (LNG) self-power plant within its Dangjin Steelworks in Chungnam by 2028.
According to Hyundai Steel on the 25th, the LNG self-power plant will be used to supply the electricity needed to transition to an electric furnace-centered production system.
Hyundai Steel plans to invest 800 billion KRW over three years starting in 2025 for the construction of the LNG self-power plant.
As early as June, it plans to hold briefing sessions for environmental groups and local residents.
Hyundai Steel holds the position that the LNG self-power plant within the steelworks is inevitable to implement the '2050 Carbon Neutral Roadmap' announced in April last year.
This is because a stable power supply is necessary to shift the existing blast furnace-centered production system at the Dangjin Steelworks to an electric furnace-centered one.
