Heo Eun-ah: "Lee Jae-myung and Cho Kuk, who deprived ordinary people of their dreams, have no right to talk about green onion prices"
"Brazen Political Offensive Must Be Judged"
Opposition party leaders have highlighted the price of green onions as an issue, turning the 22nd National Assembly election into an unexpected controversy over green onion prices. Huh Eun-ah, the Reform New Party candidate for Yeongdeungpo Gap, criticized this by saying it is "like charcoal criticizing the color black."
On the 25th, Huh posted on her social media (SNS) targeting Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Cho Guk, leader of the Cho Guk Innovation Party, saying, "They are trying to sway public opinion with the price of green onions," and asked, "Do Lee Jae-myung and Cho Guk, who deprived ordinary citizens of their dream of owning a home due to skyrocketing housing prices, have the right to talk about green onion prices?"
Huh said, "Seeing Lee and Cho point out high inflation and criticize President Yoon Seok-yeol's showy public sentiment gestures reminds me of the old saying, 'Charcoal criticizes the color black' and 'The outhouse pillar calls the mill pillar dirty.'"
Huh questioned, "Is the world Lee wants one where a bunch of green onions costs 10,000 won or 100,000 won?" This was a critique of Lee's proposal to "provide 250,000 won per person and an average of 1,000,000 won per household as a livelihood recovery fund to all citizens."
Huh emphasized, "President Yoon's showy gestures disconnected from public sentiment are certainly problematic. However, just because the Yoon administration has problems does not mean the Democratic Party and the previous government's mistakes disappear," adding, "The shameless behavior of the two party leaders, who focus only on populist money distribution and brazen political offensives without any reflection on their own faults, must be judged on April 10."
The green onion controversy arose recently when President Yoon, at the green onion sales stand at Hanaro Mart Yangjae branch in Seocho-gu, Seoul, said, "Still, 875 won per bunch of green onions is a reasonable price." Lee mocked President Yoon, saying, "When the president bought them, it was 875 won, so I thought if opposition party leaders went, it would be about 900 won, but it was 3,900 won," and added, "If it were me, I would have thought, 'This price (875 won) is a bit strange.'" Cho fanned the flames of the green onion controversy by saying, "The Yoon Seok-yeol administration will fail not because of left or right politics, but because of green onions."

The People Power Party responded to these criticisms by stating, "The government and ruling party are doing their best efforts, including injecting 150 billion won in emergency funds to stabilize prices of agricultural and livestock products. The Democratic Party should stop baseless criticism and join the government and ruling party's efforts to stabilize prices."
