OCI Holdings to Supply 930 Billion KRW Worth of Solar Polysilicon Long-Term to Trina Solar
OCI Holdings Malaysia Subsidiary OCIM
Signs Long-Term Contract with World No.1 Trina Solar
OCI Holdings recently announced on the 25th that its Malaysian subsidiary, OCIM, has signed a long-term supply contract for solar-grade polysilicon with the global solar energy specialist Trina Solar.
Under this contract, OCIM will supply approximately $700 million (about 930 billion KRW) worth of solar-grade polysilicon to Trina Solar's production base in Thai Nguyen City, Vietnam, until 2030.
Founded in 1997, Trina Solar operates in more than 170 countries and regions, including 'Trina Singapore,' which signed the contract with OCIM. It is a global top-tier company boasting the world's number one shipment volume of 210mm high-power, high-efficiency solar modules.
OCI Holdings stated, "We can stably supply low-carbon solar-grade polysilicon produced based on eco-friendly hydropower in Malaysia, and our product competitiveness is excellent." They added, "With this large-scale supply contract with Trina Solar, OCIM has solidified its superior position in the global market."
As preference for non-Chinese solar-grade polysilicon increases, OCI Holdings is actively investing to strengthen its position as a key player in the U.S. solar value chain. OCIM began investing in equipment from the third quarter of last year to stabilize processes and improve quality. Following the U.S., Europe has also agreed to enact forced labor prohibition laws similar to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA).
OCIM is also conducting strategic order acquisition based on high quality and cost competitiveness. They are currently negotiating prices and contracts linked to the price of non-Chinese solar-grade polysilicon with global top-tier customers.
In fact, OCI Holdings recently announced during last year's earnings conference call that OCIM plans to expand its polysilicon production capacity from the current 35,000 tons to 56,600 tons by 2027.
