Jeju Fire Department Holds Volunteer Fire Brigade Day Ceremony at Jeju Student Culture Center

The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Fire Safety Headquarters (Chief Go Min-ja) announced on the 21st that it held the 3rd Volunteer Fire Brigade Day ceremony at the Jeju Student Culture Center Grand Theater.

The Volunteer Fire Brigade Day is set on March 19, combining March 11, the day stipulated in the Fire Services Act for volunteer fire brigades, and 119, the symbol of firefighting. Every year, the hard work of volunteer firefighters who dedicate themselves to protecting the lives and safety of residents is encouraged.

Under the theme "A righteous heart, with passionate courage, a great step together with the people," the event was attended by Governor Oh Young-hoon, Jeju Provincial Council Chairman Kim Kyung-hak, volunteer firefighters, advisory council members, and firefighters, totaling over 800 participants.

The ceremony began with the opening declaration by Lee Mi-kyung, Chairwoman of the Volunteer Fire Brigade Women's Association, followed by the national anthem, viewing of the theme video, greetings by Kim Bong-min, Chairman of the Men's Association, congratulatory speeches, awards for meritorious service, donation presentation, and the proclamation of the Volunteer Fire Brigade vision.

On this day, the Jeju Volunteer Fire Brigade Association donated 5 million won to the Jeju Community Chest of Korea’s Neighbor Helping Guardian Angels fund, adding significance to Volunteer Fire Brigade Day by highlighting their commitment to neighborly love.

Additionally, all attendees participated in a performance wishing for the successful hosting of the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Jeju.

Governor Oh Young-hoon stated in his commemorative speech, “The 2,210 volunteer firefighters who navigate through social and natural disasters as well as volunteer activity sites, engaging in social safety and donation activities, are a pride and great example for the people of Jeju.”

He added, “We will work together with the Jeju Provincial Government to ensure that the righteous activities of volunteer firefighters make our society warmer and firmly support safety.”

At the ceremony, 44 volunteer firefighters, including Kim Bong-min, Chairman of the Volunteer Fire Brigade Association who received the Presidential Citation, were honored with awards (1 Presidential, 5 Ministerial, 5 Commissioner, 25 Governor, and 8 Council Chairman citations).

The second part of the event featured various programs for volunteer firefighters, including cultural performances by the volunteer fire brigade and invited singers, as well as an exhibition of volunteer fire brigade activity photos.
