The 'Busan Education History Museum,' which will systematically preserve, research, and widely promote the modern and contemporary history of education in Busan, is opening its doors.
The Busan Education History Museum, a branch of the Busan Metropolitan Central Library (Director Kim Jeong-tae), will hold its opening ceremony at 2 p.m. on the 11th and begin full-scale operations.
The opening ceremony, held on a meaningful day marking the start of the March 1st Independence Movement in Busan, will be attended by a minimal number of people, including Superintendent of Education Ha Yun-su, Shin Jeong-cheol, Chair of the City Council Education Committee, Lee Gap-jun, Mayor of Saha District, and other officials.
The Busan Education History Museum is established in the former Gamjeong Elementary School building in Saha District, with a total floor area of approximately 6,430㎡, spanning four floors above ground. It operates from Tuesday to Sunday and is closed on public holidays and Mondays.
The museum consists of three permanent exhibition halls, a special exhibition hall, a Dokdo experience center, and an outdoor experience yard. Among these, the permanent exhibition halls introduce the history of education in Busan from the late Joseon Dynasty to the present, while the special exhibition hall showcases 39 schools in the Busan area boasting over 100 years of history and tradition.
Until now, the Busan Education History Museum has collected various educational materials from the late Joseon period, when modern education in Busan began, through the opening of the port era, Japanese colonial period, Korean War period, and the industrialization and democratization periods. Based on these materials, the museum conducts research on the history of Busan education and operates programs including exhibitions, education, and hands-on experiences.
For groups ranging from 5th-grade elementary to 3rd-grade middle school students, the museum offers an 'Educational History Learning with a Guide' program. Each session can accommodate up to 30 participants.
For individuals, general exhibition viewing is available, including guided tours, AR experiences, and free viewing. Additionally, the 'Our Local History Travel' program, linked with the elementary integrated after-school program, is offered to 4th to 6th-grade elementary students.
Moreover, various lifelong education programs have been prepared for students and the general public.
