Yangcheon-gu Raises 1.07 Billion Won for 'Warm Winter Campaign' with 3,564 Participants
From November Last Year, 3,564 Participations Over 3 Months Raised a Total of 1.072 Billion KRW, Achieving 119% of the Target
663 Million KRW in Donations and 480 Million KRW in Goods to Be Used for Welfare Support Projects for Vulnerable Groups
Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that the total amount raised for the ‘2024 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign’ has been tallied at 1.072 billion KRW.
Since last November, the district installed the ‘Love Thermometer’ in the lobby of the district office’s first floor and operated a donation relay involving key figures and residents through the ‘Love Thermometer Unveiling Ceremony,’ striving to spread a culture of sharing over three months until the 14th of last month.
This year’s final fundraising amount exceeded the initial target of 900 million KRW by more than 119%, reaching 1.072 billion KRW, with a total of 3,564 contributions received from all walks of life. Of this, 663 million KRW was in cash donations, and 480 million KRW worth of goods were donated, conveying warmth and compassion for neighbors despite difficult conditions such as high inflation and economic downturn.
Heartwarming stories also continued throughout the local community. In December last year, when the cold was severe, a clothing company that has maintained a relationship with the district for over 15 years donated more than 6,000 pieces of clothing to help North Korean refugee children and vulnerable groups stay warm during winter, adding a touching moment.
Additionally, despite the real estate market slump, the Korea Certified Realtors Association Sinjeong Branch donated about 1.6 million KRW to help neighbors in need, and the local financial institution Deungchon Credit Cooperative also participated in spreading positive influence by donating over 1,200 items including ramen, blankets, and masks.
Furthermore, donations of rice, winter supplies, and other goods continued to support vulnerable groups for a secure winter.
The collected cash and goods will be provided to low-income families requiring welfare service connections such as living expenses, medical care, and housing costs.
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “I sincerely thank everyone who participated in sharing for the community and neighbors despite the difficult situation caused by economic recession and rising prices,” adding, “We will continue to create a warm Yangcheon where happiness is shared together through co-governance policies that embrace the lives of the vulnerable.”
