Is There No Future for Ski Resorts?..."Last February Was the Warmest Month Worldwide"
Announcement of 'Copernicus Climate Change Service' (C3S)
A report has revealed that last February was the warmest February ever recorded worldwide. AFP and other news agencies reported on the 7th (local time) that the European Union (EU) Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) announced that last month's temperature was 1.77 degrees Celsius higher than the average February temperature during the pre-industrial period (1850?1900).

C3S stated, "The global average temperature has set record highs for nine consecutive months on a monthly basis." Last month's temperatures were above average in many places, from Siberia to South America and Africa, and Europe experienced its second warmest winter on record.
They added, "During the first half of last month, the daily global average temperature was exceptionally high, with four consecutive days exceeding 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels." The global average sea surface temperature last month also reached a record high of 21.06 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous record set in August last year.
Carlo Buontempo, director of C3S, pointed out, "It may seem surprising, but it is actually not surprising that the continuous warming of the climate system inevitably leads to new temperature extremes."
Is the era of the ski industry ending due to warming...
There is also analysis suggesting that the era of the ski industry is over due to fewer snowy days caused by global warming. The British Guardian reported on the 3rd (local time), citing a joint study by the University of Innsbruck in Austria and the University of Waterloo in Canada, stating that "the era of abundant snow at ski resorts has ended due to the climate crisis."
Additionally, researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder predicted that Arctic glaciers could completely disappear by 2035. The main cause of sea ice loss is greenhouse gas emissions. As glacier areas shrink, the amount of sunlight absorbed by the ocean increases. This raises sea surface temperatures, accelerating glacier melting and creating a vicious cycle that intensifies warming.

While global warming is accelerating, there is also research showing that energy-related carbon dioxide emissions worldwide reached an all-time high last year due to reduced hydropower and a significant increase in fossil fuel use in countries affected by drought. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) recently reported that the International Energy Agency (IEA) announced that energy-related carbon dioxide emissions increased by 1.1% (410 million tons) from 2022 to reach 37.4 billion tons last year.
