Dongdaemun-gu Secures 5.2 Billion Won After Selection in Smart Village Contest
Promotion of 'Smart Traffic Safety System Deployment Project' with a total budget of 5.24 billion KRW

Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 4th that it has been selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT's '2024 Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project' and will receive 3.668 billion KRW in national funding over three years from 2024 to 2026, securing a total budget of 5.24 billion KRW by adding 1.572 billion KRW from the district budget.
The 'Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project' aims to improve residents' quality of life by supporting the introduction of smart services based on advanced ICT technology.
The district plans to use the budget to promote the 'Smart Traffic Safety System Introduction Project' to enhance traffic safety for vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, the elderly, and children.
The main project components include ▲ AI-based pedestrian safety system (mutual approach alerts between vehicles and pedestrians) ▲ deep learning-based smart crosswalk construction (video transmission of vehicles violating stop lines) ▲ smart speed warning system (displaying license plate numbers and speeds of speeding vehicles).
To this end, the district intends to prioritize spending 2.24 billion KRW in the first year of the project, this year.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “We will build a smart traffic safety system throughout Dongdaemun-gu to create a walkable city where vulnerable traffic groups can also travel safely.”
