Hwaseong-si Provides Check-in Call Service for Elderly Living Alone
Visit Confirmation When No Call Records or ARS No Response
Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 28th that it will operate the 'Alone Elderly Check-in Service' to prevent solitary deaths among single-person households starting this year.
The Alone Elderly Check-in Service is a system that notifies the administrative welfare center officials of the town, township, or neighborhood if there is no incoming or outgoing call history on the target person's wired or wireless phone for a certain period, or if there is no response to the automatic check-in call (ARS).
When the notification is received, the responsible official visits the residence to check on the elderly person's well-being and identifies any difficulties in daily life to connect and support necessary welfare services.
Jung Myung-geun, mayor of Hwaseong City, said, "As the number of single elderly households is increasing, we will strive to prevent solitary deaths through this service and ensure that welfare services tailored to the recipients are provided."

Those aged 65 or older living alone in the area who are eligible for the basic pension can apply. If you wish to use the service, you can visit the administrative welfare center of your town, township, or neighborhood to apply. The project targets about 1,000 single elderly people aged 65 or older in the area, and the city explained that it has received a good response, with about 180 people applying for the service within just over a month.
