Oil Spill from Ship at Hadong Thermal Power Plant Pier... Coast Guard's Emergency Containment
Oil leaked from a vessel docked at the thermal power plant pier in Hadong-gun, Gyeongnam, prompting the Coast Guard to launch an emergency containment operation.

According to the Sacheon Coast Guard Station, a report was received on the 22nd at 12:22 PM that fuel oil was leaking into the sea from a 45,000-ton vessel.
The Sacheon Coast Guard dispatched an aircraft, four patrol vessels, and two containment boats to the scene to collect the oil.
Support for containment operations has been requested from two government vessels, nine private rescue ships, and vessels from the Masan branch of the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, using oil absorbents and other materials.

A representative from the Sacheon Coast Guard stated, “Oil fences have been installed around the accident vessel to prevent the oil from spreading,” adding, “Once the containment operation is complete, we plan to investigate the exact cause of the accident and the amount of oil spilled.”
