Bosung Green Tea and Yunnan Province Pu'er Tea Exchange Agreement
Boseong-gun and Yunnan Agricultural University of China Sign Tea Industry Agreement
On the 20th, Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that Boseong-gun of South Korea and Yunnan Agricultural University in Yunnan Province, China, signed an "International Tea Industry Exchange Agreement" to enhance the competitiveness of the tea (茶) industry in both countries.
The agreement ceremony was attended by 20 Boseong-gun officials including Kim Cheol-woo, Mayor of Boseong-gun, Lim Yong-min, Chairman of the Boseong-gun Council, Jo Gye-don, Director of Planning and Budget Office, Kim Jong-nam, Director of Culture and Tourism Division, Heo Ho-haeng, Director of Population Policy Division, and Son Yeon-ji, Head of Tea Industry Team.
From Yunnan Agricultural University, 12 people participated including Li Yonghe, President of Yunnan Agricultural University, Zhu Yaoshun, Director of the Office of External Cooperation and Exchange, Yin Bin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Tea College, Wang Biyijuan, Dean of the Tea College, Gong Yuanshen, Deputy Secretary of the Tea College, Li Zihua, Vice Dean of the Tea College, and Professor Zhu Hongge.
Yunnan Agricultural University is a regional comprehensive university in Yunnan Province with 1,884 faculty members and about 77,200 students. It researches various biological resources including tea (茶), has established a tea genome database, and is leading industrial innovation in China by developing in-depth processed products of Pu'er tea.
Through this agreement, Boseong-gun, the representative of South Korea's tea (茶) industry, and Yunnan Agricultural University, the production area of Pu'er tea in China, will exchange technologies in tea cultivation, processing, and distribution stages, and work on developing varieties suitable for post-fermented tea that are competitive in overseas markets.
In particular, they plan to participate in tea (茶) festivals and expos held in both countries to exchange tea culture, support Yunnan Agricultural University's educational programs, and promote cooperation to enhance mutual friendship and joint development.
Kim Cheol-woo, Mayor of Boseong-gun, said, "Through educational cooperation in the tea (茶) industry and tea (茶) cultural exchange with Yunnan Agricultural University, we will expand the market share of Boseong tea, secure international competitiveness, and use this as a foothold for the global market entry of Korean tea beyond revitalizing the local economy."
Meanwhile, the agreement between Boseong-gun and Yunnan Agricultural University was sparked by exchanges with Jang Cheong-gang, Honorary Member of the Organizing Committee of the 11th Boseong World Tea Expo held last year and Consul General of China in Gwangju, and Professor Zhu Hongge of Yunnan Agricultural University.
Professor Zhu Hongge visits the "Boseong World Tea Expo" annually to introduce Chinese tea (茶) culture and was appointed as an overseas judge for the 2023 "11th World Tea Tasting Competition" and the "9th Korea Tea Blending Competition."
