Busan Office of Education Develops Supplementary Teaching Materials for Elementary Digital Literacy Education
'Digital is My Friend 1 & 2' On-site Distribution
Training Sessions Also Held for Using the Textbooks in Classes
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education has developed supplementary textbooks titled "Digital Is My Friend 1·2" for 1st and 2nd grade elementary school students to support customized digital literacy education tailored to school conditions.
This textbook aims to strengthen support for digital literacy education in schools in response to the expansion of SW·AI education curriculum hours ahead of the introduction of the 2022 revised curriculum.
Since September last year, the Busan Office of Education has been developing the textbooks through a development team consisting of Professor Im Hwa-kyung from the Department of Computer Education at Busan National University of Education and eight elementary school teachers from the district.
The 1st-grade textbook consists of two themes: ▲Hello, Digital! ▲Ttukttak, Digital! It includes content that closely observes and engages with the shapes of peripheral devices that make up a computer by comparing them to everyday objects.
The 2nd-grade textbook is organized to be easy to understand with themes such as ▲"Lee Jini's Smart Life," which explores the functions of peripheral devices that make up a computer, and ▲"Lee Jini's Convenient Life," which explains the relevance to daily life through various use cases of digital devices.
Before the full-scale distribution in March, the Busan Office of Education will conduct training to assist in the use of the textbooks in classes. From the 19th to the 22nd, the training will be held at the Busan Education Research and Information Center for about 960 teachers responsible for digital literacy education for 1st and 2nd graders in the district.
One to two representative teachers per school and grade participating in this training plan to conduct follow-up training for teachers of the same grade at their respective schools after the start of the first semester.
