Wando-gun Expands Citizen Safety Insurance Coverage to 29 Items

Added Items for Wheelchair Accident Death and Injury Sequelae

Support Up to 20 Million KRW Depending on Coverage Items

Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, will expand the coverage of the ‘Citizen Safety Insurance’ this year.

According to the county on the 19th, the ‘Citizen Safety Insurance’ has been implemented since May 2018 to provide insurance benefits to citizens who suffer damage from unexpected various disasters and accidents, aiming to promote their livelihood stability.

The insurance premium is fully covered by the county, and Wando residents and registered foreigners automatically become beneficiaries without any separate subscription procedures or conditions, allowing them to receive benefits.

This year, two additional items have been added to the existing 27 coverage items, including △natural disasters △explosions, fires, collapses, landslides △robbery injuries △school zone traffic accidents △drowning accidents △accidents while using public transportation △agricultural machinery accidents △hit-and-run and uninsured vehicle accidents: △wheelchair accident deaths and △accident injury aftereffects disabilities. The coverage amount has also been expanded with an investment of 129 million KRW from the county budget.

The coverage period is until January 31, 2025, and even if insured under other policies, duplicate compensation is possible, with compensation up to 20 million KRW depending on the coverage item.

Insurance claims can be made to NH NongHyup Property & Casualty Insurance by the insured or legal heirs within three years from the date of the accident. For further inquiries, contact the Safety and Disaster Team of the Wando-gun Safety General Division.

A county official stated, “We have been expanding the coverage items of the Citizen Safety Insurance every year,” adding, “We will make greater efforts to create a community where citizens can live with peace of mind.”

Meanwhile, last year, the county paid a total of 150 million KRW to 12 citizens or their bereaved families due to accidents involving agricultural machinery, drowning, fire, and dog bites.
